Approach

I use a flexible and integrative psychotherapy approach that is grounded in science and tailored to meet your individual needs. I have extensive training in a number of evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Relational Psychotherapy, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), and mindfulness. In some situations, particularly when patients are seeking help for a well-defined diagnosis or problem, adhering closely to one of these specific treatment models can be highly effective. In other situations, when patients are seeking help with various issues that are less clear-cut and perhaps overlapping, a more flexible approach that draws on several treatment models can result in the best outcomes.

When choosing a therapy approach, another important consideration is that people may prefer and/or respond better to some treatment approaches more than others. Our preferences for and responses to specific therapy approaches are influenced by a variety of factors, including individual goals, personality characteristics, cognitive style, and prior experiences in treatment.

I will meet with you to learn more about your needs, goals, and preferences and develop an individualized treatment plan.

Regardless of the therapy approach, I will probably encourage the use of measurement-based care. In measurement-based care, the problems and/or symptoms for which you are seeking treatment are routinely and systematically evaluated, most often via brief questionnaires and other assessment tools. Measurement-based care allows us to track your progress over time and make changes if treatment is not providing the desired outcomes.
